Robot Operations Engineer

As a Robot Operations Engineer, you will be the backbone of our hands-on robotic development. You will be responsible for the bring-up of fresh hardware, maintaining our active hardware fleet, as well as owning the "robot gym": our dedicated lab environment where robots undergo continuous testing and AI model training.

Your work ensures that our AI and software teams have uninterrupted access to high-functioning, reliable hardware. Working at the intersection of hardware engineering and AI development, you will oversee prototype bring-up, diagnose electromechanical issues, and create a structured, highly efficient lab environment that accelerates our overall product development cycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Hardware Bring-up: Perform the initial bringing up and commissioning of freshly built prototypes. Ensure the flawless interaction between hardware, firmware, and base software stacks before handing them over for active testing.

• "Robot Gym" Management: Own and operate the "robot gym." Ensure the lab environment is safe, organized, and continuously optimized to support the AI team's data collection and training operations.

• Fleet & Inventory Ownership: Track, maintain, and manage the entire inventory of robot prototypes, sub-assemblies, and critical spare parts. Ensure all active units are properly version-controlled and running the latest hardware and firmware configurations.

• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, sensor calibrations, and hands-on repairs across the robot fleet. Rapidly diagnose and resolve electromechanical, networking, or system-level issues to minimize testing downtime.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary technical bridge between the Hardware and AI teams. Provide operational support, manage hardware allocation requests, and feed critical performance observations back to the hardware engineering team to improve future iterations.

• Process Standardization: Establish and document clear standard operating procedures (SOPs) for robot operation, safety protocols, lab maintenance, and hardware troubleshooting.

• Experience: 3+ years of experience in robotics operations, lab management, hardware testing, field engineering, or a similar hands-on electromechanical role.

• Core Skills: Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities. Familiarity with Linux environments, basic network configuration, and scripting (e.g., Python or Bash) for system diagnostics and bring-up. Experience managing hardware inventory, using standard lab equipment, and ensuring operational safety.
